When it comes to college applications, you will likely have to apply either through ApplyTexas or The Common App. While there are guidelines provided to help you navigate through both online applications, trying to do so alone is known to be rough.
The college application process is definitely not an easy one, and if you are the first student in your family to go through this process, even your parents may feel lost and unsure of how they can help you through it; there’s no official timeline for either students or parents.
If you want to go to school in Texas, you’ll have to fill out a college application on ApplyTexas. There are several applications for the different types of students- freshmen, transfer students, graduate students, and so on. Each category of student applying to college has its own separate application instructions. Once you’ve read through the requirements, you’ll need to create an account.
Take inventory. To apply, you’ll need a lot of information at hand; here’s a checklist. If you want to apply for scholarships, you’ll need another layer of info. Also take note of the essay prompts.
You’ll need to fill out the Common Application if you’re applying to most any other school in the country. The Common App website lists five things to do to get started – create an account, add schools to your college list, figure out what your specific schools require, gather general application information, and finally, start your application. It also has an Application Dictionary available in case you are confused or unsure about any of the vocabulary used during the application process.
