We’ve earned the trust of our community through our ethical, honest, no-nonsense approach to test prep. We’re intent on helping clients chase goals, not scores. Test scores on their own are just numbers and not very useful ones at that. The only point of test scores is what they can provide. We evaluate every student’s academic background, testing history, and college goals to make a smart, informed, individualized plan. We oversee every aspect of every tutoring program from start to finish. We continually develop our curriculum in response to the ever-changing tests. The college and testing landscape isn’t the same from year to year, and we’re committed to providing the most educated, up-to-date guidance possible.
Which test is best – SAT or ACT? What’s a good score? How much can I improve? What scores should we be targeting for acceptance? For merit scholarship? When is the best time to start? Are we too late? How does score choice work? Should I aim to superscore? These are questions we answer every single day. We don’t have any stock programs since we haven’t met any stock students. Instead, we use the information from our consultation and diagnostic test process to prescribe exact next steps for each student. We break down SAT vs. ACT, areas of low-hanging fruit, prep priorities, target scores, and timeline for prep.
Even better? It’s all FREE.
We hold all our tutors to the same rigorous standards, but just like your students, no two are the same. Their backgrounds, just like yours, are varied, but they all leverage their strong backgrounds, teaching skills, and dynamic personalities to drive execute every MJ Prep plan. The training, talent, and dedication of our team are fundamental to our students’ ongoing success.
Every MJ Prep tutor is an employee, not a contractor, so we’re able to preserve high standards company-wide. All employees are background checked and insured.
Program lengths vary since students’ baselines and target scores vary. Some students come to us needing 1-2 points to unlock a merit scholarship. Some come to us needing a significant improvement to move their target schools from “stretch” to “target.” That said, the longest we like to work with a student before any given test is 15-16 hours over 8-10 weeks. If it will take longer than that to get from point A to point B, we’ll make a multi-test plan for incremental improvement.
Our sessions are all one-on-one, and each student meets with the same tutor every single session. Our tutors are masters in all areas of the ACT and SAT, so there’s no switching between a math tutor, a verbal tutor, and a science tutor. That 1:1 relationship is crucial to building students’ confidence and coherent strategy across all sections of the test.
In-home sessions are two hours, once a week. Online sessions are one, one and a half, or two hours. We give students 45min-1hr of homework in between sessions, so students can expect a total weekly commitment of under three hours.
