Personalized SAT + PSAT prep for DFW students

Since 2013, MJ Prep has helped Dallas-Fort Worth students prepare for the digital SAT and PSAT through 1-on-1, in-home tutoring built around the student. Every plan starts with a diagnostic, not a curriculum.

CURRENT FORMAT

About the Digital SAT

The SAT is now fully digital. If you’re comparing notes with parents whose kids tested a few years ago, here’s a quick orientation on the current format.

The Digital SAT is 2 hours and 14 minutes, significantly shorter than the old paper format. It’s section-adaptive. The difficulty of the second module adjusts based on performance in the first. Reading and Writing are combined into a single section with shorter passages and one question per passage. A calculator is permitted for the entire Math section. The test is taken on a device using the College Board’s Bluebook app.

This matters for prep because strategies that worked on the old SAT don’t always carry over. At MJ Prep our curriculum is built around the current test. We analyze new material as soon as it’s available and update our approach accordingly.

QUALIFICATION

Is the SAT Right for Your Student?

Choosing between the SAT and ACT is one of the most important early decisions in a student’s college prep journey, and most families make it without enough information. Some students are naturally better suited to one test over the other, and a diagnostic for both is the only reliable way to know.

At MJ Prep we start with a free consultation followed by a diagnostic on official material. We analyze the results and give you a straight answer: SAT, ACT, or neither. We might even recommend your student doesn’t need tutoring at all. Either way, our goal is the right outcome for your student, not more billable hours.

PSAT + NATIONAL MERIT

Why the PSAT matters

The PSAT isn’t just practice. It’s the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program, one of the most valuable merit scholarship opportunities available to high school students. A strong PSAT score as a junior can unlock significant scholarship dollars at colleges across the country.

If your student has National Merit potential, we want to know about it early. The prep window matters, and a junior-year qualifying score is something to plan around — not something to react to in the fall.

OUR TUTORS

Vetted, trained, and obsessed with the test

Every MJ Prep tutor takes a full-length SAT during hiring, clears background and reference checks, and finishes paid training before meeting a student. They’re rigorously vetted. But more than that, they know how to teach, adapt, and build confidence in students anxious about standardized testing.

MJ Prep founder Michael Jordan takes the SAT every year and has received nothing but perfect scores. The bar is high.

FAMILIES SAY

What SAT families say

★★★★★

The pre in-home assessment Michael did yielded invaluable information. Peter was very engaging, adapting to our son's learning style. He improved his ACT by 5 points — elevating him to the second tier of merit scholarships at his college of choice.

★★★★★

Michael's expertise teaching kids how to take the ACT and SAT is truly unique. After a diagnostic, he assesses exactly how many sessions you'll need. My son raised his ACT by 7 points — and is now headed to Yale, Columbia, Harvard, and Brown for college visits.

FAQ

SAT Prep Questions DFW Parents Ask

How much does 1-on-1 SAT tutoring cost in DFW?

Pricing depends on package length and frequency. We provide a custom quote on the free consultation, based on your student's starting score and target.

Do you prep students for the digital SAT?

Yes. We prep for the digital SAT format, including the adaptive sections, built-in calculator, and on-screen tools. Our materials and practice sessions match the live test environment.

Should my student take the SAT or the ACT?

It depends on your student's strengths and target schools. We diagnose this on the free consultation and recommend the test that suits them best — sometimes both, sometimes one over the other.

When should we start SAT prep?

We typically start 2-3 months before a student’s target test date. That window gives time to learn the digital format, build pacing, and run full-length practice — without overloading them.

How long does SAT prep usually take?

Most students see meaningful gains in 6-8 sessions. Plan length depends on starting score and target. We tailor the plan after a diagnostic, so the timeline matches the student.
